Modernised Corset Gowns

The Modern Traditional Corset Gown

After creating my Rococo Ballgown, I was inspired by the traditional corset’s surprising comfort and size versatility and I thought I would try my hand at designing a more modern evening gown using a pre-existing corset.
However, unlike a high-society lady of the mid to late 1700s, I am afraid I have to dress myself. So I decided to opt for a front lacing corset for ease of putting the garment on.

I have already got the corset and created a design using a photograph of myself wearing it of what I intend to do with the skirt. It’ll be a ruched wrap skirt with a middle thigh slit, tailored to hit the top of the foot. The satin should arrive soon, if I find it’s not quite the quality I want, I might invest in some mulberry silk and use the satin cutoffs as a pattern.
